Studio Policies for Flute LessonsWelcome to my flute studio. To make your lessons comfortable and productive, here are some guidelines. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. I include pieces from a wide range of styles and composers. Please be prepared for folk, jazz, modern, classical pieces along with history, ear training, and theory. Theory and ear training are a core part of music education and are taught through the music. Occasionally there will be light homework on these topics. Lessons are expected to be attended with; a good attitude, a flute in proper working order, a pencil, notebook and any music requested. Regular daily practice will be required and family members should be aware time and space will be needed at home. My studio hosts two recitals a year which are informal chances to play for friends and family. Participation is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. The Dec.-Jan. recital is generally flute and piano. The May- June recital is Flute and piano with chamber music including strings or winds. I teach in the summer with three weeks off for family holidays. Summers can be a great time to study or attend one of the many local music camps. Students are encouraged, but not required to study in the summer. Regular attendance is required. If you will miss a lesson I must be notified before the lesson is scheduled to start. Missed lessons must be rescheduled and made up within the missed lesson week or they are forfeited. If I am unable to teach a lesson, the lesson will be offered within the week at another time, credited to the student. Students may withdraw at any time, however, all lessons received must be paid for. Performing:Participation in recitals is encouraged and applauded with enthusiasm. Students are expected to pay the fee for the piano accompanist. Students can choose to pay for each session with a pianist or they can pay a set rate at the beginning of the year which will cover piano accompanying for all rehearsals and recitals. Students choosing to do exams are responsible for: applying for the flute exam, the cost of the exam, booking an accompanist, and any extra practices they wish to do. Fees:Individual Lessons:Conservatory students register as set out by the Victoria Conservatory. Home studio students require 10 postdated cheques dated for the first of each month Sept. to June. Group Lessons:2-3 or more students- same as individual Lessons but must book for 1.5 hours to allow for enough time to work individually when required. |
